5 Most Expensive Northern Virginia Homes Sold

The region's low inventory and high mortgage rates did not stop sellers from listing their luxury properties in 2023. We can understand why these residences pulled in the big bucks—from mansions with European architectural influences to ancient estates situated on 100-acre grounds. These are the most expensive homes sold in 2023 in Northern Virginia, according to Homes.com.

$13.25 million: 1163 Chain Bridge Road, McLean

Naturally, the most costly sale of 2023 took place in McLean's Langley Farms. This 13,882-square-foot house is situated on a property surrounded in trees and behind a gated entry. See the splendor of this six-bedroom home with seven full bathrooms and three half bathrooms by entering through the mahogany and glass doorway. The home is adorned with handcrafted mantles in the study, ancient limestone fireplaces in the living room, antique French doors, and a unique David Wiggins ceiling in the dining room. The backyard showcases a guest house, infinity pool, and cabana with an outdoor kitchen.

$10.8 million: 1113 Langley Lane, McLean

This may be the closest thing to a castle in Northern Virginia. Inspired by country cottages in France and the English Cotswolds, this residence combines luxury and period details. Admire the exterior's handcrafted design, which features fieldstone taken from buildings along the Oregon Trail, before looking at it from the outside. Vintage iron wall grilles from the 1900s, a floor-to-ceiling hand-carved fireplace, and vintage Dalle de Bourgogne limestone are some more historical delights. A professional gym, a wine cellar, a media and game room, and an old oak-floored sports court are among the distinguished amenities.

$7.75 million: Great Falls, 10509 Beach Mill Road

When you arrive at the Elsworth Falls estate, you have the impression that you are in Cape Cod. Hiding behind L'Auberge Chez Francois, the 4,600-square-foot mansion spans over 21 acres and boasts four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. A lot of charm and modern design are combined with an East Coast and farmhouse style. Step outside the sunroom to discover the exquisitely built in-ground swimming pool. In addition to being a fantastic spot to cool off in the summer, the outdoor entertainment area offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and the setting sun.

$7.1 million: 524 Innsbruck Ave, Great Falls

In the real estate market, Ryan Zimmerman's former home was a sensation. This five-acre mansion is equipped with resort-style amenities, making it suitable for a baseball star. We're talking about an elite fitness center that has an entirely furnished bar, a steam room, and a cinema room on the inside. Explore the backyard where you'll find a saltwater pool, hot tub, and koi pond along with a cabana that can accommodate all your friends with lots of seating.

$7 million: McLean, 1332 Mccay Lane

What is included in a 13,722-square-foot home? To name just a few features, how about six bedrooms, ten bathrooms (seven full and three half), a gourmet and catering kitchen, a wet bar, a wine room, and a fitness center complete with a sauna and steam room? This newly constructed home also features a sleek and contemporary in-ground pool with a 24-foot waterfall wall in the back, as well as a driveway that can accommodate at least 25 cars in the front.

The most expensive cities in Virginia are Great Falls, Middleburg, Vienna, Dunn Loring, Waterford, Upperville, and McLean. The mean property values in these areas range from $1,041,913 to $1,561,930.  Luxury homebuyers are drawn to these regions due to their proximity to Washington, D.C., affluent communities, and renowned golf courses. The most costly residences in Northern Virginia that were sold in 2023, on the whole, are indicative of the area's reputation for luxurious living and feature a distinctive fusion of upscale amenities, historical architecture, and modern conveniences.
